Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) sensitivity labels are used at Indiana University to help classify documents and data according to their data classification. When a sensitivity label is assigned to content, it's like a stamp that's applied.
Labels are defined in accordance with IU's data classification levels:
For the different Critical labels, the document's purpose at IU will determine which label should be applied. For example, the “Critical—Health” label will be used when PHI is involved, while “Critical-Financial” will be used when PCI or bank information is present.
In a Microsoft 365 app (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint), select the Home tab, and then select the Sensitivity option in the ribbon.
Select the appropriate classification for the file.
Select Show bar to keep the bar posted at the top of your Office app.
You can easily change sensitivity labels to a higher data classification. To change the label to a lower data classification or to remove a label, you need to provide a reason. To remove a sensitivity label that has already been applied to a file, unselect it from the Sensitivity menu.
